STEP BY STEP GUIDE TO WALL TILING:
- Find the lowest point in the floor using a straight edge and spirit level.
- Place the tile against the wall on the lowest point on the floor and mark the wall on the high side. Using a straight edge & spirit level extend chalk line across the wall face. Install a support batten flush with the chalk line.
- Layout a row of tiles on the batten. Adjust the positioning of the tiles to centralise the tiles so that there is and even cut on either corner. Do not forget to cater for the width of the grout joints.
- Once the horizontal batten has been installed, apply a vertical batten from the original mark. Use a spirt level to ensure the batten is perfectly vertical.
- Select the type of tile adhesive to be used. Using a wall tile notch trowel apply the tile adhesive horizontally ensuring that the tile adhesive bed is uniform. Do not spread more tile adhesive that can be used within 15 minutes.
- Lay the tiles from the section where the horizontal & vertical battens meet. When installing the tiles, tile spacers must be used to obtain a uniform grout joint.
- Once the tiles are laid bed the tiles firmly using a rubber mallet.
- As the tiling progresses continue to check that the tiles are being laid horizontal.
- When tiling the edges, it is important to mark the tile from the edge to the corner. Remember to compensate for the width of the tile spacer. To install the edge tile, butter the back of the tile with tile adhesive and install the tile. Firmly bed the tile using a rubber mallet.
- Allow the tile adhesive to dry before removing the vertical & horizontal battens to finish off the tiling.
- Allow the tile adhesive to dry (overnight) and grout the tile joints with our Wall & Floor Tile Grout, grout the tile joints using a grot squeegee. Remove all the excess grout & clean the face of the tiles with a damp sponge and polish the tiles with a soft dry cloth the following day.
